Bad Rodach Local History Museum

Our museum is located on the second floor of the Jagdschloss (former hunting lodge) in the centre of our small town – at Schloßplatz, close to the location of the farmstead "Radaha" first mentioned in 899 AD. It is run by a group of volunteers of Rückert-Kreis Bad Rodach e.V. (a not-for-profit society for local history and cultural events founded in 1976 by a group of citizens around Egbert Friedrich).

The beginnings of our collection of nearly 5000 objects go back to the collection initiated in 1905 by Ferdinand Berner, town treasurer of Rodach.

What is on display? The permanent exhibition covers aspects of the political, economic and social history of Rodach – including items related to Friedrich Rückert (1788-1866), the orientalist, linguist and poet, who came to Rodach to visit his friend Christian Hohnbaum (superintendent of the protestant churches in and around Rodach, 1747-1825). Reflecting on his stay at the rectory in the summer of 1814, Friedrich Rückert dedicated his poem "Idylle Rodach" to Hohnbaum.

Our exhibition of creamware made by "Max Roesler Feinsteingutfabrik" in Rodach between 1895 and 1943 is attractive to visitors with a special interest in this field and local citizens alike.

The annual "Roesler-Börse" (Roesler Fair), organized by Stadt Bad Rodach, takes place annually in August next to the entrance to the museum. Click here for current information.

This can also be said of the exhibition devoted to the toy industry, which developed in Rodach in the 19th century.  This includes companies active since the 19th century, Christian Hofmann & Co, and since the 20th century, HABA Family Group.
Children of all ages are invited to enjoy the large play area.

We regularly display objects in special exhibitions on a range of topics based on our collection and on additional objects.

We look forward to seeing you at our museum.
